Liberian Sextet

After starting his career in Buddy Rich's big band, then continuing with Toshiko Akiyoshi, American saxophonist Walt Weiskopf's career path led him to become a musician-composer and arranger, leading his own groups ranging from 4tet to 9net. He is still very active today as a soloist and teacher.

It is to pay tribute to this talented but little-known musician in Europe that
six musicians from Lyon formed the Liberian sextet in 2012.

They come from the Crescent in Mâcon, the Polycarpe collective in Lyon and the big
band de l'OEUF and take pleasure in covering part of this magnificent repertoire, adding some of their own compositions.

The music is thirst-quenching and invigorating, with simple arrangements,
and the enchanting volutes of the brass are supported by a rhythm section that is as solid as it is inspired.
